Lt. Colonel Ramesh Iyer always dreamed of experiencing India’s majestic wildlife up close. When Veteran Voyages announced a jungle safari to Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest national park in India, he knew this was his chance to connect with nature.

The adventure began with an early morning drive to the Dhikala Zone, known for its dense forests and breathtaking views. As the sun’s rays filtered through the mist, the group embarked on their first jeep safari. Spotting a herd of spotted deer grazing peacefully amidst tall grass was a moment of tranquility.

The highlight of the trip was an encounter with a majestic tiger. The group held their breath as the tiger emerged from the undergrowth, its regal stride leaving everyone in awe. The guide shared fascinating insights about tiger conservation efforts, inspiring Ramesh to reflect on the importance of protecting India’s natural heritage.

Afternoons were spent by the serene Kosi River, where veterans relaxed, sharing stories of their service days. A short trek to the Garjiya Devi Temple, perched atop a rock in the middle of the river, added a spiritual dimension to the trip.

The evenings were magical. Around a bonfire at the resort, traditional Kumaoni folk music filled the air as the veterans exchanged anecdotes. The bond among the group deepened as they celebrated their shared love for adventure and camaraderie.

On the last day, a visit to the Corbett Museum in Kaladhungi offered a glimpse into the life and legacy of Jim Corbett, the legendary conservationist.
